This is a lovely Antique Solid Silver Cushion Shaped Hinged Soap Dish. It has a good gilt interior so it oozes quality and is of a very good guage of silver and therefore of a very good weight. It has clear hallmarks and in addition to the usual set of hallmarks it is also stamped with the makers marks inside the lid. On the front lid there is an entwined egraving done in Old English script, but I really cannot make out if it is 2 letters a "C & W" in a horse shoe or in fact 3 letters. It is so fancy and decorative that it is a bit difficult to make out
Assay Office: LONDON
Date: 1901/02
Makers Marks: S.S.D over E.D (Drew & Sons - Samuel Summers Drew & Ernest Drew)
Dimensions: 4 inches long, 2.75 inches wide and 1.25 inches deep. It weighs 133g
Condition: Overall it is in very good condition, apart from a couple of very very minor dings and some light surface scratching which is only to be expected on a metal item, but this is commensurate with age and use. I can confirm that it does shut tightly
Remarks: This really is a very good antique solid silver hinged soap dish and what a neat, tidy, clean and impressive way to carry your soap around, particularly on holiday, and a must for a great present to give someone who has "everything"
