Sterling Silver Bowl By Charles F Hall

It is described as:

This is a lovely and very modern looking Solid Silver Deep Bowl/Dish. It is of a deep tapering circular shape with straight flat sides (it is difficult to describe) and has a hammer finish to it with an embossed piped line which forms a stylised flower with the petals on the deep sides and then the base as the actual head. It has an Arts & Crafts look about it and is extremely shiny and looks very modern so it would be perfect in any home. 7.25 inches in diameter narrowing to the base which is just over 2 inches diameter. It is of a good weight and weighs 236g It is in very good condition. This really is a very stylish and unusual solid silver dish/bowl and ideal for use as a small fruit bowl, sweet dish, or it would make an impressive serving dish. I do have an identical dish, so ideal if you would like a pair (please email me if you want the pair and I will calculate a combined postage if purchasing from Abroad).

Antique Silver dish Hallmarks For London 1892 Makers Mappin & Webb offered for sale by Silver2treasure from their ebay store just click the picture link at the foot of this post.

It is described as:

This is a beautiful Antique Victorian Solid Silver Two Handled Dish. It is oval in shape and has a heavily embossed foliate and scroll pattern to the shaped rim which then casades down into 4 panels. The rest of the sides have an embossed diamond (or square pattern, whichever way you look at it) which have a circle in each shape. To the base is a large shaped pattern which is plain apart from an engraved armorial of lion. It has a very unsual raised base. I can best describe it as having a shaped scroll and leaf pierced pattern which form 4 legs with scroll feet, but it is very hard to describe and has to be seen. It has two pierced lug handles which have embossed scroll ends. It is made from a good guage of silver and has clear hallmarks and is also stamped on the base "Mappin & Webb London"

Assay Office: LONDON

Date: 1892/93

Makers Marks: J.N.M (Mappin & Webb - John Newton Mappin) Just under 13 inches long from handle to handle. The actual dish is 10.25 inches long, 8.5 inches wide at its widest point and 3.25 inches tall. It weighs 440g. It is in very good condition. This really is a very decorative and very useful antique Victorian solid silver two handled dish, that would look impressive in the centre of any table, perhaps filled with fruit (although it would be a shame to hide the pattern). It would also make a super serving dish or a very posh bread basket, however it does just make a lovely display item. Stock No. 5094

Silver Dishes A Pair Shell Shape Hallmarks Birmingham 1971

Silver Dishes A Pair Shell Shape Hallmarks Birmingham 1971 offered for sale by Silver2treasure. You can view these silver dishes in their ebay shop by clicking the picture link at the foot of this post.

They are described as:

These are not the usual shell dishes and unlike any that I have come across before. They are absolutely beautiful and have been beautifully engraved with a floral pattern to the top of each of the segments and having a lovely fluted edge. They have short embossed shell shaped handles, and they stand on quite long volute feet. These dishes are made from a good guage of silver and are of a very good weight.

Assay Office: BIRMINGHAM

Date: 1971

Makers Marks: JBC & S Co (JB Chatterley & Sons Ltd)

Dimensions: 5.25 inches long at their longest, 4.5 inches wide at their widest point and they stand 1.75 inches tall. They weigh a total of 231g

Condition: They are both in lovely condition

Remarks: This is a superb pair of solid silver shell dishes, and I have to say that the photograph does not do them justice. They make beautiful display items when not in use, and would look impressive in any home. If you could bear to part with them once you see them, they would make a lovely present for someone

Antique and vintage silver by its very nature has been previously used. Silver is a comparatively soft metal and a combination of many years use invariably leaves its mark. I do endeavour to describe all items accurately but do not expect any antique to be in "as new condition".
